Here's an excerpt of the Urban Shadows adjacent fiction that brought the portal to life for a brief moment back in 2021. Written lovingly with my friend, Mel, who I hope is doing well.

The pink haired vampire, Cupcake, looks back over her shoulder at her tall date. "Ready to ditch the west end?" She reaches for his hand without waiting for an answer and drags him into a pizza place, through the kitchen and everything. She greets the manager, "Hi Angel, how's Casey? When are you coming to seeee meeee? Better be sooon!!" Angel is a person built like a wrestler, piercings all over their face, metal band t-shirt on and covered in flour, tossing pizza dough in the air. They wink at Cupcake and size up Kyo as the two pass through. When Cupcake pulls Kyo out the back door, they're in another kitchen. Vietnamese this time. 

"Hi Casey! How's Angel? Come see me soon, k?? Miss you. Kisses!" Casey is a small but jacked femme pulling noodles out of boiling water. She smiles knowingly at the pair and winks at both of them. Once they leave the restaurant, they're out on the sidewalk somewhere across town. "Welcome to the East Side."

"Wow, you weren't kidding about the shortcut. Are Casey and Angel... you know?" Kyo asks with a mischief-filled smile. Cupcake smacks him on the arm.

"The polycule-" she stresses, "has a few portals like this around town if you're in the know. You need a stamp though." She shows him the back of her wrist where there's a faint ethereal stamp of what looks like a slice of pizza drawn in Sharpie. "The pepperoni means I can bring guests... Anyway. The pool is this way."
